Lead Service Engineer

I joined R&B Switchgear Group in September 2013 as an Apprentice Engineer after completing a Level 3 BTEC at Bury College. Over the past 11 years, I’ve progressed through multiple roles, from Field Service Engineer to Lead Service Engineer, and now Lead Test Engineer following training in testing and commissioning.

The role has been both challenging and rewarding, involving commissioning, maintaining and fault-finding on critical electrical systems, often in high-pressure environments where reliability and safety are key.

Within nine years, I progressed into a leadership role, which reflects the opportunities available here. I’ve worked with major clients including Carnival UK, Shell and Network Rail, and travelled globally across onshore, offshore and marine projects, from Singapore to the Caribbean and South America.

The support, training and opportunities at R&B have been key to my development, and I’m proud to continue building my career here.

As a former apprentice, working at R&B has been one of the most enlightening experiences.

Through working with other experienced colleagues and trainers, such as our Technical Training Manager, I have learned the basics and the caveats of becoming a professional engineer. And that valuable knowledge is sometimes only found in a place like R&B.

They have taken care of and provided for me with the hospitality of their office staff and the equipment that every engineer needs.
